-
- After having owned Amigas as well as Macs (and run the MacOS on
- the Amiga, of course), I don't agree. "Better" is a rather
- vague word, but in general, no. Given the R&D money Apple has
- spent in comparison to puny ol' CBM, AmigaOS definitely takes
- the prize. (Specially since the ROMs are still on 512 Kb..)
-
- KT> 2) Commodities - aren't those kind of like extensions?
-
- Nope. You can't just quit extensions at will, nor adjust them.
- At least get to know what you're talking about.
-
- KT> 4) Cooperative multitasking is just as "real" as preemptive - both let
- KT> the cpu share time with other processes.
-
- Nope. The Mac's multitasking is far, far less flexible than
- the Amiga's. Try adjusting the taskpriority real-time...
-
- KT> 5) Arexx - Applescript is better and better supported.
-
- Dunno about "better" - I don't use Applescript - but ARexx is
- pretty well supported among Amiga programs, as well. Haven't seen
- all that many Mac programs with Applescript support...
-
- 6) Real Drive Names - Macs have had real drive names since '84
-
- Uhm. So what? I can name my drives just about anyway I like.
-
- 7) Draggable screens - limited placement compared to just moving windows
-
- Screens are VERY handy compared to the Mac desktop, where everything
- happens on one (easily-cluttered) screen. If one program freezes
- the desktop, the whole machine is blocked, even if some other
- programs may still be running in the background. You just can't
- reach them anymore. Believe me, this is a major bother on Macs.
-
- 8) Unlimited tasks and windows running/open - The Mac isn't even
- limited by available RAM
-
- Uhm. So? Neither is the Amiga. Never heard of VMM and the like?
- Thought so... (And no, MMU-less Macs don't profit from VM either!)
-
- KT> Too bad you still haven't mentioned anything that's not available for
- KT> Macs.
-
- One word: pre-emptive multitasking.
-
- Since 1985. Copland, 1996.
